FAQs

Why would I need your help?

Some time, certain issues or events cause emotional distress, problems in relationships or change in our self-image. We may have difficulty concentrating at work or school, withdraw from friends and family, or find emotional pain unbearable. We may feel anxious or unhappy for many days at a stretch, be unable to sleep well, lose appetite, or have problems communicating with others. That could be the time when a trained professional could help you gain the skills to handle your problems on your own.

How can you help me?

During and after a chat session with us, the clients usually experience new insights into their own life situations, clearer thinking, better understanding of their own feelings and needs, and a greater sense well-being.  For best results, the clients must feel comfortable with us and be able to speak their minds freely. Though expressing uncomfortable details about the troubling issues would be painful, the temporary pain is bound to lead to desirable results.

Will whatever I say remain confidential?

Absolutely. All conversations with you at Harmony Centre shall be strictly private and confidential. We follow the highest professional ethical standards.

What can I expect at the first session?

It is perfectly natural to feel nervous or anxious at the first session and we know it takes a lot of courage to share your personal issues and emotions with a stranger. We would ensure that you feel comfortable, usually start with your background and personal history and then, gradually go into the concerns that brought you to us.  Some brief paperwork would also be required to be done for the record.

How long does a session take?

Generally the first session would take about an hour and a half. Subsequent sessions are of shorter duration and may last for about 45-50 minutes.

How many sessions will be required?

It would depend upon the nature of the issue being handled. Most cases would need anything from 2 to 3 sessions. Some cases may require more number of sessions , if the issues are complex.

Will my child and I be seen together?

Children need a patient hearing and we do provide them time. So we may need to conduct a separate session with your child or adolescent.

Do I/we have to undergo some tests?

Occasionally, we may have to conduct personality assessment tests, IQ tests etc. These tests will be conducted at our centre by trained professionals.

What do I expect from the ‘Art of parenting’ session?

It will help in reducing your stress and will increase your sense of confidence while interacting with your child. It will help you in identifying, controlling and expressing your feelings related to your child’s behaviour. The session will also help you in devising new strategies in dealing with your children.
